Privacy Policy

This describes what information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.

  1. Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text), and optional display name.
  2. Listing information. When you post a listing we collect the details you enter — name, contact email, location, price, description, and any photos you upload. This information is used to display your listing and to relay messages from interested members.
  3. Location data. For roommate, sublet, and community listings, we convert the location you enter into coordinates using OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service. We store your true coordinates privately and display a randomly offset point on the public map, so your exact address is never shown. For "Apartment Needed" listings, the desired search area you enter is shown as-is, since it describes where you're looking rather than where you live.
  4. Contact between members. Your email address is never published on the site. When another member contacts you about a listing, we relay their message to your email — and your reply goes directly to them. Once you exchange a message this way, you and that member will each have the other's email address.
  5. Bot prevention. We use Google reCAPTCHA to detect automated signups and spam. This sends limited interaction data to Google for scoring; see Google's privacy policy for details on how they handle it.
  6. Cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and a "viewing mode" cookie that remembers whether you're browsing listings for men or women. Neither cookie is used for advertising or tracking outside this site.
  7. Reports. If you flag a listing, we store the reason you provide so moderators can review it.
  8. Who can see what. Listing details, offset map locations, and photos are visible to any member browsing in the matching viewing mode. Your true address is never shown to anyone. On the "Apartment Needed" map, your name is shown only to members who are logged in.
  9. Data retention and deletion. You can delete your own listings at any time from "My Listings." To delete your account entirely, contact us and we will remove your account and associated listings.
  10. Security. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
  11. Children. This site is not directed at, and should not be used by, anyone under 18.
  12. Changes to this policy. We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
  13. Contact. Questions about this policy, or requests to delete your account, can be sent by replying to any confirmation or notification email you've received from us.
